 Q1: How do I register my business name in Nigeria?

  • Search for the availability of the name of the company you want to register.
  • Access http://services.cac.gov.ng/ and sign up as a new customer.
  • Provide all the necessary details accurately.
  • Once you have signed in, click on 'Name availability Search'.
  • Type in and search for two names that are unique and uncommon as your proposed business name.
  • Don't use names that end with 'consulting' 'finance' 'media' unless you have the proper documentation to back up that claim.
  • Fill the form with your dmail address and phone number and submit the form when done. 
  • You will be asked to pay a submission amount of N500 which can be paid using your naira mastercard,visa card, verve card,Etc.
  • It will take two working days for the name of your company to be approved or disapproved. 
  • If it was disapproved then you have to try again with another unique name and you will be required to pay again,so research thoroughly before coming for name registration.
  • Once the business name is approved,log into your CAC account. 
  • Once logged in click on 'action' and download the the letter of approval from the CAC portal.
  • Open the letter and take note of the approval number. 
  • Go back to the website, Click on 'Registration' on the top left of the webpage.

  • Select business name and paste the number from the approval document on the space provided.
  • Then click on "Enter".
  • Make sure you know all the important details like: the nature of the business, proprietors of the business,fill all required relevant information accurately. 
  • You can also save and exit from the CAC portal and continue later if you are experiencing difficulties and continue later. 
  • Endeavor to fill the form accurately,avoid mistakes as correction would cost you more money.
  • When asked if you need additional copies of certified true copy and documents select zero,this is applicable to those who are registering a limited liability company.
  • Submit the form and Pay N10,000 for your business name via your ATM card.
  • After payment online you will print out the form,which you will submit to the CAC office in your area.  
  • Before visiting the CAC make two photocopies of the following documents:
  • The approval of business name document.
  • All the receipt of payment from Remitta and CAC.
  • The form you received upon payment for business name.
  • Two passport photographs.
  • N250 stamp duty fee payable to CAC Skye Bank Account.(Collect the remitta receipt)
